Railroads commonly followed the rivers that provided easy access to towns. Below are examples of railroad bridges that crossed over rivers or creeks.


Niles-Alliance railroad covered bridge over the Mahoning River.

Niles-Alliance railroad covered bridge over the Mahoning River. It was built in the late 1880's. Later the bridge became part of the Pennsylvania Railroad.

The new bridge was completed in late 2013. The previous bridge had been erected in 1953.
In the background is the Erie Railroad overpass which also was built in 1953.
